Eva Wilson writes: Hubby and I were laboring at home feeling very confident for the birth of our second child. I knew with the support of my amazing husband, my doula Melanie Headley, and my midwife Amber Price that my labor would be successful. Once the work got serious, Amber and Melanie encouraged me to come into the hospital. Boy were they right!! My water broke in the car on the downtown expressway and I started to feel the baby WAS COMING! We parked in emergency parking and my husband and doula raced me to the L/D unit. I was crowning all through the lobby. We made it to the elevator and Melanie realizing that the baby was coming out held pressure until the elevator doors opened and there raced Amber down the hallway. Amber yelled STOP, pulled my pants down and told me to push. I gave birth there in the hallway on my hands and knees in a wheelchair to a beautiful 10 lbs 1 oz baby girl. Amber handed me my baby and I held her in my arms with the cord still attached. We were then rushed to our room leaving a trial of chunky bits, blood and afterbirth all down the hall. Everyone was deemed okay so mom, dad and baby recovered in the tub with postpartum hydrotherapy. Without the quick wisdom and action from Amber and Melanie, my husband would have delivered our baby wrapped in her cord on the side of the highway. I could not have been in better hands VCUMC CNM Amber Price
