Evan had some rough patches last night but it went better than we - TopicsExpress

Evan had some rough patches last night but it went better than we thought it would go, all in all. He ended up needing oxygen all night and at one point his nurse and I had to do an emergency trach change due to a plug. Imagine that your airway swells shut and you are trying desperately to breathe through a very tiny hole. He was red faced and sweating from head to toe and he was retracting and struggling for every breath. Poor guy! And of course, I was out cold, sleeping. Talk about an adrenaline rush in a bad way! But we got it changed and he was asleep, literally, within seconds. After that, he did pretty well, still requiring some oxygen, but that is normal for him when he is sick. He has been having a bit mrs trach secretions, so what had been called a stomach virus is now heading to his lungs a bit. Happens everytime. :( But he is stable, comfortable, and home, so that is all that counts. We are trying a very mild, stomach friendly, blend of food right now, to see if he can tolerate it. He only had Pedialyte last evening up until noon today, but he is telling us he is hungry, so we will give it a try! Wish us luck! These pictures are both from today. The first was when his fever went back up this morning a bit and he was pretty miserable, and the second was just taken. He is feeling a bit better at the moment. Lets hope it stays that way! Have a great day!
