Evander Childs High School is an Italian Renaissance-style educational campus located in the Bronx. Completed in 1930, the building accommodates up to 4,700 students and spans a full city block. The school’s name commemorates a widely popular 19th century educator who provided more than 50 years of dedicated service to the borough. Childs’ motto was “What I do, I will do well.” The property served as a public high school until 2008 when it was restructured as a learning center for six small specialty schools. Today, the Evander Childs Educational Campus offers focused curriculum in areas including writing and communication, contemporary arts, health, aerospace, and computer technology.
