Even as that last darkness was near my father still planted and tended a fig tree and roamed abandoned orange groves to gather discarded fruit. He was fond of barbecue, warm loaves of bread, wine, eggs and ham, rabi, tripe, and Portobello mushrooms, pasta fragole, and spaghetti a’ olio. Never finished HS, though he built many. When we walked along the nature trials in Fla he loved to watch for owls and osprey, perhaps like me envious that they could launch effortlessly, without thought or pity, into the immense revolving dome of the blue, blue sky… .
