Even fights that are dumb ego contests (what we call the gorilla - TopicsExpress

Even fights that are dumb ego contests (what we call the gorilla game) can give us lessons for our Active Self Protection! Different force multipliers are used differently, as this shows. Audio and text lessons. Lessons: 1. Different force multipliers have different ranges. The knife is a fast moving short range tool. The club is a moderate moving, medium range tool. Each has their place in your self-defense repertoire, but each must be used in the way that works best for them. Notice that the shirtless guy drops the knife because he doesnt want to be in close proximity to a larger, stronger opponent. (thats smart) He also may not be willing to use it for its intended purpose, in that it is a deadly force tool. 2. Know how to use different tools effectively! Once shirtless guy got the club he only had one move with it, which the other guy had an effective counter for. But imagine if shirtless guy had hit black shirt guy in the common peroneal nerve cluster in his left leg with it...fight would have gone very differently for sure! If he had known how to use that club forehand and backhand on multiple targets, he would have had a different outcome. (not saying that would have been a good thing here...) Know how to use tools you might pick up in your environment or from your opponent! 3. Dont let your ego get you into a fight. This started with a lot of jaw jacking and probably could have been avoided with a smile, a willingness to put the knife away, and an apology. That would have kept him from a butt whooping! Dont get into fights you dont need to in order to assuage your ego. 4. The cops couldnt get there in time once the fight started. We are pro-LEO but they cant protect you in the moment. Only you can. So be ready! 5. Great block by the black shirt guy. He really had that one down. Tony Blauer will yell at me if I dont mention how well he used the outside 90 principle to effectively keep that tool at bay. ;) Great technique to learn and own. Attitude. Skills. Plan.
