Even if I dont have to dig into the source code of a product I want to use, I still tend to judge it as if I would have to do so. So obviously opensource is better than closed. But also something hosted in github, written in ruby or python and copycenter license is definitely going to win out over something in cvs or svn written in php and copyleft. I also dislike corporate stuff where you cant easily find a link to the source code on the companys website. If the project isnt user-friendly for developers, its likely also not user-friendly for end users. But I also dont feel like hosting my own thing this time, so closed-source Freedcamp it is, I guess...
