Even if you "do everything right" and walk with people, things can still happen. The police werent there, what if he had a weapon, knife, or gun and forced her in the van? She would have had no way to protect herself. This has happened 3 times and we only just now are getting an email? How aware are we really to the threats to our safety, and more importantly why does campus force us to limit the tools at our disposal for personal protection? This is yet another example why carry should be allowed on campus. The Email: "ISU Police remind everyone of the need to be extremely cautious should they be approached by anyone they do not know who might offer a ride or seek information. Three recent incidents of this type have been reported to campus police since the start of the semester. On Aug. 21 at approximately 11 a.m., in the area of Fifth and Tippecanoe streets, an older white male driving a red, older, “soccer mom” style van, asked an ISU student if she needed a ride. The student walked away. The driver approached her a second time and asked the student if she would make a cell phone call for him. The student ignored the driver, continued walking and nothing further occurred. On Aug. 27 at approximately 3 p.m. and approximately 10-15 minutes later, two instances occurred near the area of the Imperial Lanes bowling alley at Third and Chestnut streets. An older white male driving an older model, light colored car, asked two ISU students if they wanted a ride. Both students ignored the driver and there was no further conversation or action. Public Safety reminds all students to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to Campus Police."
