Even though Almost Home provides the best care possible for the dogs that stay in the Shelter until adopted, many develop survival skills to adapt to their new environment. Through our Training & Socialization Program (offered through Better Life Canine Center), we help the dogs prepare for a home by helping them overcome their fears, especially of people and other dogs. Chyna, who is featured in this video, feared people and often demonstrated aggression toward other dogs. She has lived in the shelter for 3 1/2 years, and prior to that, she was found by Animal Control tied to a fence being hit and poked by kids with sticks. She had every right to be fearful, but since participating in training in socialization, those fears have diminished. She now understands dog manners and is able to greet and accept dogs without issue. And she trusts people with a slow and respectful introduction. Chyna could be our poster child for how the importance of training and socialization, but truthfully, so could many other dogs in the program or on deck ready to start the program. We could not continue our program without your support by donating, or considering one of these dogs for adoption. $100 supports a dog in training for a month, but any amount plays its part in allowing the program to continue.
