Even though Harper does not plan to attend, this citizen act of sending a message to Harper is one that we need to let the rest of the country know about. Harper is forcing us to choose between his ideological approach to economics (read: invest in more oil & gas) and our awareness that burning fossil fuels is the major contributor to irreversible climate change. As we try to resolve this conflict, we are confused. Dont be. He is exploiting our confusion with massive advertising to convince us that jobs & the economy are the only issues. They arent. Actually climate change (due to accelerated burning of fossil fuels) is causing massive impacts on farmers (soggy fields, early snowstorms), flooding of cities (e.g. Calgary), and many other incredible environmental impacts. Dont be confused. Realize that there are much better, sustainable options for energy production and conservation (wind, solar, super insulation and retrofitting buildings, geothermal, tidal) that need investment from government now. We have to transition over the next 50 years to a much lower dependence on carbon based fuels. Its pretty simple!
