Even though dozens of lawmakers lost their seats on Tuesday, taxpayers will continue to pay a portion of their salaries in the form of pension checks. The Congressional Research Service reported that 617 former members of Congress collect pensions that annually average $60,250 each - a total cost of $37.2 million a year.
