Even though goats could offer a profitable and secure source of income for farmers, they are not raised as a business enterprise in Liberia. In the rural villages, the goats run free with little, if any, conscious management practices applied. The internal demand for goat meat is met primarily through importation of goats from neighboring countries such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast and Mali. This is due to insufficient supply and irregular supply of goats ready for slaughtering, low productivity of goat herds by Liberian farmers and lack of marketing infrastructure that link traders and goat farmers within the counties.
