Even though the case of embattled aviation minister Ms Stella Udua who is accused of misappropriating funds of an agency under her ministry for her personal vanity is a common place in our MDAs. Nigerians will continue to sensationalize the matter, though the government will continue to treat such matters with kid gloves, until another matter creeps up, then suddenly public discourse will shift ground leaving the matter like all other serious cases of alleged corrupt practices and abuse of public office unattended to. It is even worst that when such culprit are charged and convicted like in the case of; Tafa Balogun, Yusuf Yakubu, Olabode George, DSP Alamieyesiegha et al, the sentence is nothing short of what critics call a slap on the wrist. Nigerias electorate must be alive to their responsibilities and remain less passive to these acts of impunity perpetrated by those who call themselves public servant, yet live like kings & Queens while those they represent continue to wallow in abject poverty. Though it is not out of place that acts like the one in question should aggravate public interest and anger, we must continue to ask authorities questions about the position of cases in the past that are similar or even worst. People who have already done permanent damage to this nation with evidence are left to roam the street free and are even recycled to continue from where whence they left. The Augean stable will continue to get messier when matters of public interest continue to be treated with such impunity.
