Even though the weather forecast is for unseasonably cool weather, the vegetables dont know that! Thus there will be many kinds of warm weather vegetables and fruits and they are soooo fresh, having been picked from a local garden just a day earlier! Blueberries will probably not be at the market again this season, but one vendor is getting a few luscious Sioux blackberries! Another vendor has watermelons that are a cross between Black Diamond and Crimson Sweet! And, there are Porter peaches and Athena cantaloupes! In addition to the above, other warm season vegetables and herbs offered are:sweet corn, green beans, yard long beans (these are very tasty!), cucumbers (many kinds), sweet peppers, potatoes, basil, dill, garlic chives, squash (zucchini, pan, and yellow), eggplant, shallots, mature onions, brussel sprouts, okra, Swiss chard, and Malabar, Thai, and Chinese spinach. The Washington County Master Gardeners will be selling Early Girl tomato plants for you to use in your fall garden. Yes, it is entirely possible to plant them now and have nice tomatoes before frost! Ask the M. Gardeners for advice about this and other gardening topics! A few cool season vegetables will still be available: kale, broccoli, Chinese broccoli, cabbage, turnips, beets, carrots, and kohlrabi. Other items at the market include: --bingo at 9:15 with now two chances to win a large sampling of the Market! --local honey, jams, and jellies --Adriennes specialty breads and tasty cookies --great food from Grannys Vittles, including coffee and sweet rolls --join Friends of the Farmers and get a neat shirt and a good chance to win $50 worth of Market Money (spend it at the Market) --beautiful cut flowers, insect repellant, gourd art--the flowers are really coming on! --eggs, grass fed beef (such as sirloin steak), and free range pork (great hillbilly bacon) (free range chicken is coming!) --free advice from Master Gardeners (every other Saturday) --various soaps, and natural skin care items --jewelry --hand sewn items from Marthas Task --local pecans --The band will be Mike Hough
