Even though we hate to think about it, hurricane season is nearly here. This USA TODAY article kindly reminds us that its been nine years since the last hurricane hit Florida: Wilma in Oct. 2005, which long-time SW Floridians will recall made landfall in Collier and then got stronger as it crossed the Everglades. This is the longest period on record with no major hurricane landfalls since 1878, when reliable landfall records began, says Colorado State University meteorologist and hurricane expert Phil Klotzbach.
