Friday, 22nd November “LET NOT YOUR GOOD BE EVIL SPOKEN OF” “Let not then your good be evil spoken of.” (Romans 14:16) God’s people are at different stages of Christian maturity and that accounts for little differences they may have between one another. These differences are sometimes exacerbated when it has to do with issues for which the Bible seems to have given not express guidelines, instructions or answers. For example, the Bible says in Romans 14:2: “For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.” Some folks believe it’s okay to eat anything, but some others believe you should eat only vegetables. Who then is right and who is wrong? The answer is in the next verse: “Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him” (Rom. 14:3). So, it’s clear that God doesn’t want any of us to condemn the other for what he’s doing that isn’t agreeable to us. However, the Bible says “If your brother is pained by the food you are eating, your conduct is no longer controlled by love. Take care lest, by the food you eat, you lead to ruin a man for whom Christ died” (Rom. 14:15 WNT). That means even though your own faith may permit you to do certain things, God expects you to always consider the effect your action will have on other believers. The Bible says “It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.” (Rom. 14:21). Don’t let what you consider acceptable become a stumbling-block in the faith of someone else; don’t let your good be evil spoken of. Prayer: Dear Father, I thank you for showing me the way to accept others the way they are, and for teaching me not to condemn anyone. My conduct and actions today are controlled by love, and I’m making a positive difference in the lives of those around me, in Jesus Name. Amen.
