Even whole-grain bread can contain fairly significant amount of sodium. Where possible, get your whole grains from sources other than bread. One hundred percent whole grains are high in fiber and help to lower cholesterol and prevent heart disease; however a number of bread manufacturers are adding excessive amounts of salt to their manufacturing process. There can be as much as 260mg to 400 mg of sodium per slice, effectively negating the bread’s health benefits.
