Even with fracking ban in New York, giant, high pressure gas - TopicsExpress

Even with fracking ban in New York, giant, high pressure gas pipelines, compressor stations and other gas infrastructure continue to proliferate New York. Please call your elected officials and tell them to take immediate action to STOP SPECTRA ENERGYS GIANT HIGH PRESSURE ALGONQUIN PIPELINE EXPANSION which would be constructed within a few hundred feet of vital structures at Indian Point nuclear power plant intersecting 2 proposed 1,000 megawatte electrical lines (they spark!) in a significant seismic zone and densely populated region. Nuclear power and pipeline experts continue to urgently demand comprehensive, independent and transparent risk and health impact assessments before any decisions are made about this massive high pressure gas pipeline expansion. These critical risk and health assessments have NOT been conducted. Nuclear power and pipeline experts have indicated that a gas pipeline failure or accident in such close proximity to Indian Point could result in a catastrophic explosion rendering Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and the tri-state region uninhabitable for generations. Much of the gas will be exported overseas through Canada. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is set to issue its Final EIS on the project in a few weeks. Permit can be issued immediately thereafter. Please keep calling elected officials and tell them to STOP ALGONQUIN PIPELINE EXPANSION PROJECT! ASK THEM WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO ADDRESS THIS EMERGENCY NOW! Please find contact information for elected officials at sape2016.org
