Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:30-31 This text for Sunday keeps rolling around in my head as a powerful reminder that for those of us who follow this man named Jesus need to be willing to soar like eagles these days. That is not always easy for us though because we often feel faint and weary from all of the burdens that we keep hanging around our necks. We cant soar if we have concrete on our feet. As a church, as a body, as individuals, we are being called to live our faith boldly in times like these. Yet, to many that sounds scary, frightening and maybe even something that we are unable to do. Right now we are being called to be more like eagles than the land dwellers that we are. Humans cant fly like eagles though preacher. Well, you are right to think that, but we can soar. Look at the acrobat artists in the circus. They flip, and soar through the air with what looks like ease and no fear or worry. There is a reason for that. They know and understand that in order to fly through the air they must be willing to do one very important thing, they must let go of the bar. To let go of the bar means that we have to let go of our fears and worries about what might happen to us. We have to be willing to trust the training we have and be willing to keep learning what is necessary to help us to soar higher and with ease. This will not happen overnight. It takes practice and patience and a soul that is willing to fall and make mistakes. Over these next few days pray with me that we may all seek to be acrobats in faith and that we will work together to help one another soar to new heights of faith. Our charge conference will be this Sunday at 2:00 at First UMC in Belmont. Our youth will be greeters and we will celebrate the work of our Missional Network. Please make plans to attend. Also, we will have a missional Saturday workday this Saturday, November 16. We will meet at St. Marks at 9:00 a.m. We will be working at North Belmont Elementary and building a wheelchair ramp too. Have a blessed weekend!
