N. Vohra has emphasized the high importance of documenting, reviving, preserving and effectively showcasing the traditional arts, crafts and rich heritage of the State. The Governor was witnessing the Kashmir Heritage Exhibition along with the First Lady, Usha Vohra at the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Complex, Lal Mandi, yesterday. The Governor and the First Lady went around the Exhibition and took keen interest in the rich collection of art, craft, costumes, jewellery, household items, manuscripts, images, musical instruments and archaeology displayed at the Exhibition. The Governor, who is Patron of the Cultural Academy, emphasized the need for organizing similar expositions at various other places in the State to showcase J&K’s rich heritage. Secretary of the Academy, Khalid Bashir Ahmad briefed the Governor and the Lady Governor about the objective of organizing this Exhibition and said that similar Exhibitions would be held to reflect the heritage of Jammu and Ladakh regions. JKCL Commissioner/Secretary, Industries & Commerce Department, Farooq Ahmad Factoo, yesterday inspected the upcoming 300 TPD (Grinding cum packing plant) of J&K Cements Ltd at Samba. The prestigious upcoming plant is in final stage of commissioning. The Managing Director, Jammu Kashmir Cement Limited, R. K. Razdan apprised the Commissioner/Secretary about the upcoming plant and said that the project involving an investment of Rs. 27.00 crore is funded by J&K Govt. The Commissioner expressed satisfaction over the pace of ongoing work on the project and impressed upon the officials of JKCL to ensure early commissioning of plant. Vohra has observed that the educational institutions are granaries where future leaders of society are nurtured to shoulder the responsibilities of nation building in varied fields of human endeavour. The Governor was addressing the Annual Day Function of a school at Srinagar yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that peace and normalcy are very essential pre-requisites for achieving progress and prosperity. He said that the educational institutions have a very crucial role in nurturing the spirit of camaraderie, brotherhood, love and compassion among the children so that, in their later lives, they can contribute towards the establishment of harmonious and peaceful societies. Cabinet meet The Cabinet which met in Srinagar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah accorded sanction to the transfer of State land measuring 500 kanals situated in village Jadh, Tehsil and District Reasi in favour of the University of Jammu for the establishment of a University Campus. The Cabinet also extended the period of submission of the report by the Cabinet Sub-Committee examining the creation of new administrative units by one month beyond 24th August, 2013. It also constituted a Committee headed by the Chief Secretary to look into the various issues involved in the proposed lifting of moratorium on the opening of new B.Ed Colleges. The Committee comprises of Secretary to the Government, Higher Education Department, Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir and Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu. The Committee would finalize its recommendations within one month. Pak Firing Ceasefire violations continued along the Line of Control in Sabjian sector of Poonch district throughout the night but there were no casualties or damage. Official sources said that Pakistan Army resumed firing in Sabjian sector at 10.30 pm and continued it till 5 am. The Indian side retaliated. However, other sector in Poonch district like Balakote, Mendhar and Digwar remained calm with no firing reported there. The day passed off peacefully in all areas of Poonch district, yesterday. Indian troops remained on high alert all along the LoC in Poonch district in anticipation of firing and infiltration attempts by the militants Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 DC-Kishtwar Chairing a meeting of panchayat members of Padder tehsil, the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Baseer Khan has called upon the panchs and sarpanchs to contribute towards restoration of peace and harmony in the district. S. P Kishtwar, Sanjay Kotwal and BDO Padder, Rishi Sharma were also present in the meeting. The Panchayat representatives apprised the DC about the initiatives taken by them at local level for restoration of confidence and mutual understanding among different communities. They said that numerous meetings have been held at every panchayat level and people are willing to work for peace and brotherhood in the area. They are also planning to hold peace rallies to infuse a sense of mutual respect for each other. They urged the administration to ensure that no innocent person be implicated in false cases and arrests be made only after proper investigation. While addressing the representatives, the DC and SP assured them that not a single innocent person will be harmed but at the same time who so ever is found guilty of serious crimes of arson and murder will not be spared Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 DA-Central Government: Source: NSD The Union Cabinet today approved a proposal to hike Dearness Allowance (DA) to 90 percent from existing 80 percent for Central Government employees and pensioners. Information and Broadcasting Minister, Manish Tewari in New Delhi said that the hike will be effective from July this year. He said that the decision will benefit about 50 lakh Central Government employees and 30 lakh pensioners. The increase in DA to 90 percent would result in additional annual expenditure of Rs. 10,879 crore. Meanwhile, National Mazdoor Conference has hailed the decision of the Union Cabinet of hiking DA for Central Government employees and pensioners. In a press release issued here today, President of the organization, Subash Shastri described this decision as employees’ friendly and appealed the State Government to also issue orders for the release of due DA instalment in favour of the State Government employees and pensioners in cash well before the ensuing festival season. Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 BSF Recruits: Source: PTI Over 600 fresh recruits were inducted as constables in the Border Security Force (BSF) after Passing Out Parade at its training centre, Humhama in Srinagar today. These 623 recruits belong to the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General BSF, Kashmir Frontier, P S Sandhu, who inspected the parade said that these recruits have undergone 24-weeks rigorous basic training involving physical fitness and mental robustness. He said that the cadets were imparted training in counter-insurgency, anti-terrorism, commando operations, field engineering, field craft and minor tactics. According to a BSF spokesperson, the Subsidiary Training Centre, Humhama has so far trained 13,450 recruits and 3,557 Group "C" staff, which include 1,913 Kashmiri youth, some of whom are surrendered militants, who are now performing their duty in various parts of the Country. Each of these cheques distributed among the BPL families for repairing damaged houses and construction of new ones amounts to Rs. 24, 000. Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that Nargota constituency, houses a large population of such people, who are very poor and identified under BPL category adding that the recent rains have caused damages to the houses of these people and they were living under open skies for many days. He asked the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds distributed among them and pay attention on the material quality. Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 Omar : Source: Information Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has asked the Revenue Department for the formulation of special Girdawari indicating the loss of crops due to recent hailstorms in different parts of the State. He said that a comprehensive and detailed report should be formulated so that compensation process would be put on the fast track. The Chief Minister said this while interacting with a deputation of farmers during Awami Mulakat in Srinagar today. He said that the development of Agriculture and allied sectors is receiving priority attention of the Government and various initiatives have been taken to ameliorate the lot of people associated with these economically important sectors. He said that agriculture has been almost kept out of the tax regime and special packages for increasing per hectare production and productivity have been provided to the farmers, horticulturists, animal rearers and entrepreneurs investing in these sectors. Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 Accident: Source: PTCs Nine persons were injured, four of them seriously in an accident that took place in Rajouri district today. According to SSP Rajouri, Mubassir Lateefi, the accident occurred when a light passenger vehicle, which was on its way from Poonch to Jammu collided headon with an Army vehicle at Rajal, Nowshera. The injured were shifted to Nowshera Hospital while the four seriously injured were rushed to Government Medical College, Jammu for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, in another accident on Jammu – Pathankot National Highway, one person was killed on the spot while 27 others were injured. According to our Samba Correspondent, Sat Pal Sharma the accident occurred near Patli Morh when driver lost control over the wheels of the vehicle, which was on its way from Jammu to Vijaypur and it skidded off the road. The injured have been rushed to Government Medical College, Jammu for treatment. Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 Eco-Sensitive Zones: Source: Information The State Level Committee headed by Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey today finalized and approved the draft proposal prepared by the State Wild Life Department for declaration of areas around National Parks, Wild life Sanctuaries and Conservation Reserves situated in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh as Eco-Sensitive Zones. The proposal envisages creation of Eco-Sensitive Zones to act as buffer or shock absorber for the protected area against any non-forest activity by way of regulating, managing and prohibiting such activities around ecologically fragile areas. The proposal will be forwarded and submitted to the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for further processing and notification under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 in order to conserve the State’s forests, environment and wildlife. Evening News Bulletin September 20, 2013 Wani – Poonch: Source: Information Minister for Roads and Buildings, Abdul Majid Wani today conducted an extensive tour of various areas of Poonch district and took stock of the pace of the various developmental activities there. The Minister inspected three storeyed building of District Hospital Building, Poonch coming up at cost of Rs. 18 crore. The building is being constructed by the R&B Department for which Rs. 10 crore have been released so far. The Minister also visited Chakan-Da-Bagh Trade Centre and took stock of the pace of ongoing construction work there. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that a proposal amounting to Rs. 10 crore has been submitted to the Union Government for installation of a big scanner and construction of the compound wall and allied works at the Centre. The Minister also inaugurated Madana to Nabana road constructed under PMGSY at a cost of Rs. 4.02 crore. This was stated by Minister for Housing, Raman Bhalla while addressing a gathering at Channi Rama after laying foundation stone of 100 feet two culverts and a deep drain today. The Minister said that the Government has resolved to create durable assets across the State under various development sectors. Bhalla asked the officers to prepare the inventory of Housing Board assets, besides, available land across the State. He further said that the Government is keen to develop new colonies as per the Master Plan under self financing schemes. He also stressed the need for evolving modernized techniques for creating Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board assets. Bhalla highlighted the need for developing more residential colonies in the new areas for accommodating the houseless people. Grievances Camp: Source: Information To mitigate the grievances and problems of the people at their doorsteps in far flung and remote areas of district Kathua, District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Jitendra Singh today held a public grievances camp at Bani. During the camp, people from various adjoining areas projected their grievances and demands which included installation of electric poles, distribution of relief to flood affected people, better road connectivity, completion of developmental works under MGNREGA etc. The DDC gave a patient hearing to their demands and assured them that their grievances will redressed on priority. This was stated by External Affairs Minister, Salman Khurshid while talking to PTI in New Delhi today, a day after Pakistan said that a response was awaited from Indian side on a possible meeting between their Prime Ministers in the US. Both Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart, Nawaz Sharif are travelling to New York to attend 68th session of UN General Assembly next week. Khurshid said that India has serious concerns on many things that have been conveyed to Pakistan over a period of time and there is need for some indications that there is seriousness on the items indicated by India to Pakistan. On being asked whether there will be a meeting between Singh and Sharif on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Khurshid said a final decision on the meeting will be taken by the Prime Minister himself.
