Evening all. Thanks for the fantastic discussion on here these past couple of days. Details of todays events seem a bit sketchy and incomplete atm, but it looks like a kosher supermarket was targeted (on a Friday, the day that Jews shop for food in preparation for shabbat) and multiple hostages were shot and killed inside. So this appears to be an entirely separate, deliberate anti-Semitic attack. I am currently struggling to make sense of these events and to understand why my fellow Jews are being massacred in Europe. This article by Furedi does attempt to tackle this question head on. I am not entirely convinced, but it highlights some worrying statistics. Id love any criticism or feedback on this / any alternative views. I agree with those who hope that this doesnt beget a violent anti-Islamic backlash. In light of todays events, I am perhaps even more worried for the the Jewish community in France. I wonder if #jesuisjuif vigils will be as well attended as those held earlier this week. Shabbat Shalom, all An ICM poll that showed 16 per cent of French citizens had a positive assessment of IS – among 18- to 24-year-olds, this rose to 27 per cent.
