Evening folks and Happy thanksgiving to my Canadian brethren! So, awhile ago, I got some great advice to fall in love with the basics and Ive been really going back and examining my playing, finding weakness and cracks and making them my strengths...there is a lot of them! hahaha! Anyway, one of exercises Ive been working on is Odd groups over certain foot ostinatos. In this video its the Baiao, but I also apply the same exercises over the Samba and Tumbao. Some exercises I do over various foot ostinatos. 1. 16th note accents using groups of 3,5,7 a- Accent odd groups within a 4 bar measure b- Accent odd groups going over the bar line 2. Repeat above but diddle unaccented notes 3. Paradiddle accents, move accents over 16th notes. Still lots of work to clean things up, work on dynamics etc. Anyway, heres a progress vid of me embracing the suck!
