Evening update: Size: 97,718 acres Containment: 95% Total Personnel Assigned: 2,451 The warmer and drier weather has aided firefighters in locating areas that are still burning near the perimeter of the fire. Residents should expect to continue to see and smell smoke from interior pockets of the fire. The increase in acreage is due to the burning of interior pockets. Firefighters continue to work on the remaining suppression activities. Firefighters are using data from heat-sensing aerial photography to locate and extinguish areas of heat remaining within, but close to, the fire perimeter. Firefighters continue mop up and patrol. Helicopters are assisting crews as needed. Fire crews continue to remove hazardous trees, chip brush and remove road debris to make roads safer for public travel. All forest roads within the burned area remain closed due to hazardous conditions which are expected to persist for some time. Crews have repaired 18 miles of hand and dozer lines and 19 miles of roads used for fire suppression activities and removed excess fire equipment such as hose, pumps, and tanks. Unified Command between the California Interagency Incident Management Team 1 and CAL FIRE will end at 7:00 AM tomorrow. A team of specialists has begun work on emergency stabilization measures. Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) is a rapid assessment of burned watersheds to identify imminent post-wildfire threats to human life and safety, property, and critical natural or cultural resources on National Forest System lands.
