Event 125 - Goodbye Scott and Love is in the Air! This week Eastbourne parkrun said a fond ‘farewell’ to Event Director Scott Harris who is following in previous Event Director Stuart Pelling’s footsteps by disappearing off to Australia for a year! Scott took over from Stuart about 7 months ago and has done a brilliant job in helping Eastbourne parkrun continue to grow - in fact this week was our 2nd ever highest turnout! So on behalf of all runners and volunteers at Eastbourne good luck and best wishes to Scott on his travels and new adventures! Also a warm welcome to our new Event Director, Mike Thompson, a regular runner and volunteer at Eastbourne, although one does wonder how long it will be before Mike disappears off down under??? So, as previously mentioned, Eastbourne parkrun Event #125 had an amazing turnout of 159 runners this week, boosted by a fantastic 44 first timers! Of these first timers, 23 decided to choose Eastbourne to try out their first ever parkrun! Hope you enjoyed your parkrun experience! Of the 21 first time visitors to Eastbourne, we welcomed a large group from Roundshaw Downs parkrun, who had gathered at Eastbourne to celebrate the wedding of Mick Turner, one of the two founder Event Directors at Roundshaw Downs parkrun back in July 2008, to fellow parkrunner Lorraine Thomas. They met when Lorraine first ran at Roundshaw in January 2011. And even Mick joined his fellow wedding guest with a pre-wedding run! Love must have been in the air at Eastbourne parkrun this week because also getting married, on Sunday, was our regular photographer and Hailsham Harrier, Ian Pusey, to Sandra Marisa Dos Santos Caçoilo. Ian also started off his wedding weekend with a parkrun! Congratulations to you all. A super 16 runners recorded a new Personal Best time this week, including Sue Fry who has finished as first lady for the past 3 weeks, recording a PB each time, and has now finished first an amazing 26 times in 34 runs! Other notable PBs went to junior runners Robbie Joiner, in 29.59, his first time under 30 minutes in 30 runs, Louise McIntyre, in 26.43, her third PB in a row and Caleb Mole, in 38.59, knocking over 6 minutes off his first parkrun time of last week. Debbie Davis knocked 30 seconds off her previous PB to finish in 30.37, her first time under 31 minutes in 20 parkruns, and Riyaz Khusal knocked a further minute and a half off his PB of last week to finish in 24.59, his best time in 10 runs. Congratulations to everybody who achieved a new PB this week! Not recording a PB, but setting a new age category record in the VW55-59 age category, was Diane Farmer with a fantastic time of 22.02. For anyone after a PB next week, Mike Pettett will be pacing ‘Sub 22 minutes’ Congratulations also to junior runner Jack Weston who completed his 10th parkrun this week and to Charlotte Scott who completed her 50th run. T-shirts will be winging their way to you shortly. And belated congratulations to Zoe Gardham, regular runner, report writer and pacer, who was awarded ‘parkrunner of the month’ for March and has already been off to Sweatshop and got herself a new pair of running shoes!
