Eventful evening with my eight year old daughter. Watched Totoro for the first time - screams of laughter, gasps at the Catbus, rehearsing that wonderful sidelong upwards glance at the monster while waiting in the rain. The we went on to read Phillip Pullman ending with the section from The Subtle Knife where dark matter, dust, consciousness and angels are revealed as linked through Lyra on the computer - which I thought might be too tough for her but, no, she picked up the sheer intellectual excitement straightaway, and then some. Spinoza next.
