Events that shaped 2014: Remembrance This year’s Remembrance events resonated with added poignancy as 2014 marked 100 years since the start of the First World War. Services took place in Afghanistan and troops elsewhere paused from their training and duties to remember the fallen. Veterans and serving personnel gathered for the two minute’s silence at the Cenotaph in London on Remembrance Sunday and, as the gun salutes sounded on Armistice Day, the last ceramic poppy was planted at the Tower of London.
