Ever been interested in map design? Then surely youve heard of Vignellis 1972 NYC subway map. Famous for its 45-degree angles and minimal above-ground representation, Vignelli (who thought of himself as an information architect) changed the way people used transit maps. And although many riders probably wanted to use it as kindling, those who appreciated what the design was trying to do still talk about it today. Max Roberts, who as a subway map enthusiast would presumably place himself in the latter of the groups, has created a version of the map that works as a compromise to the 1972 version that polarized so many.
