Ever since I remember listening to music - it has been AR Rahman on my playlist. The hours of headphoning, amazement and wonderment have shaped my life. Ive always felt his presence in my life every step of the way. When I was in turmoil and unhappy with why I was studying to be a lawyer, his songs were with me when finding my way to the music life. When I gave my intake audition in Mumbai Berklee; the professor who took my audition met AR that night. When I got my scholarship and acceptance; that very moment I was organizing an AR Rahman tribute for his bday in Dhaka with 20 of our best singers, (that I couldnt materialize as I left for Berklee. ) My first week at Berklee I saw him play here, where he talked about Berklee onstage- and i realised that I was sitting next to his mother and I started crying as I thanked her for bringing him into this world. I remember listening to Guru OST on the train to see Saif Q in England- and later that night making Ei Shondhay with him. Ei shondhay was later picked out of my debut album to be the theme of Shongram TheMovie- leading to my first job as Soundtrack composer. And there is no doubt that his music has helped me in my personal life. Anyway just wanted to share this; each one of us in the group has a personal Story with his music. If you have time on Friday please join us as we honour him and thank him with our tribute to his music.
