Ever since my wife deserted me, I have been finding it very difficult to run my daily course especially solving culinary puzzles.(my wife is away to Bangalore to look after my daughter-in-law as my younger son is on a foreign trip for some project). As a matter of fact, it was a very bad tradition in Punjab (perhaps it is prevalent even now) that male memembers of the family were never seen in the kitchen and it was the sole duty of the womenfolk to cook food. So during my mothers time, I never entered the kitchen except for mingling two/three dessert spoon of desi ghee in prepared chole (grams) available at every nook and corner of Amritsar city. This I used to do two hours before going for playing Kabaddi matches or wrestling. ( I was captain of my Schools kabaddi team and won a few matches for the school). When my wife took over the control of the kitchen, she also did not give me any chance to try out my hands in the cooking. So much so that she used to even iron out my clothes and hence virtually no work for me at home except buying articles from the market for day-to-day use. Now at the age of 60, I have learnt how to knee the flour. Initially, it seemed an uphill task to prepare a tasty food. But with each passing day, I am improving upon my cooking skills. But still a lot is to be done. My day used to start with sizzling pranthas heavily stuffed with vegetables. Ivariably it used to be either potato prantha or radish prantha. carrot prantha, cauliflower prantha, methi prantha, paneer prantha etc etc.were occasionally served. But in the absence of my wife for the last one and a half month, I have tasted pranthas just once. When she returns home after approximately three months, I feel I will be an expert cook and that will be my time to pay back her debt. We are in the 33 year of our marriage and it will now be my turn to serve her delicacies i will learn to prepare during this period. Dear Friends, I shall be preparing potato pranthas tomorrow and in case any of my friends wish to join me, he is welcome. I am confident that I will serve mouth-water prantha to my guest/guests.
