Ever since the law for putting stray dogs to sleep has been declared constitutional (25 september) in Romania, people have been instigated to violence and so the number of cases regarding ill-treatments have gone up considerably. What makes it even worse, are the politicians who should be held responsible for the situation of homeless dogs; they promote ways of ill-treatments to the media as if we lived in the Stoneage. One of them suggests stray animals should not be killed “normaly” but to capture them and simply have their jaws torn apart and leave them dying in agony on the streets. Right after his public statement, we came across many dogs with their jaws shredded or canines torn. One of them is Lara which we brought to the vet cabinet colaborating with us and hopefuly she will recover although her life will never be the same again. Everyday we bring in tormented animals, tortured and abandoned and the situation is getting more and more critical each day. Another case of such cruelty is Cezar, a dog we took in 2 days ago who is also hospitalized at the cabinet. He was starved for a long period of time and then beaten and abandoned at the outskirt of a village. Before treating him, we must get him well fed and hydrated, otherwise he will not survive the operation he needs ( he has multiple fracture) Also 2 days ago we received a call regarding a case of cruelty out of this world but not uncommon to us unfortunately; a dog was tied to tram rails so that the tram woul smash his paws. He was left there for 2 days before someone called us and by that time, it was to late for us to do anything therefore, unfortunately, we had to put him out of his misery. We were helpless in his case, but we could still make a difference for Lara and Cezar.
