Ever wonder how many baseballs are used in a game? Every home team must have 6 dozen balls ready for play, but usually have 90. A typcial game wil use 40-50. Ever wonder why coaches and players are always rubbing the baseball? All teams use "Baseball Rubbing Mud" to prepare them for pitching. No kidding! The mud comes from the New jersey side of the Delaware River and "harvested" by the owner of the company, Jim Bintliff, who stores 1000# of "mud" over the winter for sale to MLB. According to MLB Rule# 3.01c, an Umpire rubs at least 72 baseballs prior to game play. It gives the ball a rougher surface for the pitcher to grip. Such a simple game, played without a clock, and at one time, day games only.........
