Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, we give glory to you even in the most trying of lifes circumstances. Help us to see your glory where glory seems most to evade us. But help us always in all lifes circumstances to see your glory in each other. Amen. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Luke 2:8-20 { To all appearance there was nothing about the circumstances of this childs birth that would make me think of glory. At the time of delivery, Joseph and Mary are traveling so they may be properly counted in a census mandated by their Roman oppressors. They arrive in the ancestral homeland of Joseph and discover upon their arrival that there is no place for them to stay. Our true home if found in relationships of belonging. The glory of God was manifest in creation that night as all the heavenly host praised God and surrounded this wondrous family with protection, even as they sing, Glory to God. And the glory of God shone all around them. And the glory of God was everywhere in everyone. But, most certainly, the glory of God was in this child and in Mary and in Joseph.
