Everton Football Club has continued to spread glad tidings across Merseyside in celebration of Blue Crimbo by recognising its penultimate group of Blue Heroes - an Everton in the Community group known as the Blue Belles. The Blue Belles are a group of local women who have children with various disabilities and their twice weekly exercise sessions provide them with the opportunity of respite and the time to focus on themselves for a few hours a week, as well as offering them a place to meet and talk about shared issues. As a well-deserved boost ahead of a busy Christmas period, the Blue Belles were surprised with a day of pampering at the luxurious The Spa @ Suites in Knowsley where they were welcomed with a glass of champagne and told they have been recognised as Blue Heroes in recognition of their tireless efforts all year round and for being a constant inspiration to so many around them. The ladies relaxed in the sumptuous surroundings of the spa’s relaxation suite before being taken off to enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in the Bistro@Suites Hotel where they were joined by Everton in the Community CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale who brought along with her, Beth Martinez, wife of Roberto. Beth had heard all about the challenges and accomplishments of the Blue Belles and was keen to meet them to hear more about their lives and their children. Upon finishing their afternoon tea, both Beth and Denise presented the women with their Blue Hero certificates, tickets to an upcoming show at the Liverpool Empire which were kindly donated by the city centre based theatre and told them of a personal invitation for them to appear on a New Year episode of This Morning where they will be given the opportunity to model in Gok Wan’s Real Women segment. After Denise and Beth had departed the Blue Belles got down to the important stuff; the pampering. They were all treated to luxurious Decleor facials and CND Shellac manicures all delivered by the attentive Suites beauty therapists before concluding their afternoon back in the relaxation suite. After their afternoon of pampering, Blue Belle Amanda Billington said: “Today has been the most incredible experience, we were all bowled over when we walked in and were told that this day was our day. The support of Everton in the Community has been brilliant over the last 12 months; they have helped me lose weight, we all feel more confident in ourselves thanks to the group and I have made lasting friendships.” Everton in the Community CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale said: “Everton in the Community have been working with these wonderful ladies for a year now and together we have had some wonderful results. As soon as I told Beth about these women she was keen to meet them and it has been great to spend some time with them today and find out more about how we have helped them with their lives. “The staff at Spa @ Suites have been fantastic in helping us to organise today and have really helped to make it a day to remember for these ladies.” Beth Martinez added: “It has been so humbling to spend the afternoon with these Blue Belles. They are so selfless and they really don’t know how much of an inspiration they are to us and everyone around them.” Dean Jones, Health and Wellbeing Practitioner, added: “To be able to provide these women with this treat today and to officially recognise them as Blue Heroes was brilliant; they really didn’t know what to expect when they walked through the door and to see the surprise on their faces was all worth it. Over the last 12months they have all come on leaps and bounds and I’ve really enjoyed working with them and watching them grow as a group and as individuals.
