Every Cinemalaya season, I sharply remember my late friend film - TopicsExpress

Every Cinemalaya season, I sharply remember my late friend film critic Alexis Tioseco. Cinemalaya 2009 was the last long consecutive stretch we had hanging out. He also spent my birthday with us in our home, stayed over longer. He hung out during our radio show, then we all walked quietly two blocks from the radio station to dinner in my home. He stayed a little longer and we had a long talk about their family business, films, Nika leaving in a couple of weeks, and future plans like taking self-defense classes together. He sent me an SMS the next morning thanking me for that long talk sifting through things like what he loves to do and what he needs to do. Two weeks later on September 1st, he and Nika were murdered inside their Times Street home. To this day, no one is arrested for it. No justice in sight for Alexis and Nika. No real comfort for all who loved them. We all needed to survive the days and eventually the years after that. We had to keep on living, I suppose. I am hesitant about posting memories of Alexis. Like during the recent Presidents SONA- high profile murder cases (according to the President) have been solved and will be solved. He mentioned names of victims, and it made me sad that Alexis wasnt mentioned. I hesitated writing about him, even when the recent SONA brought his death to glaring light for me, (again) sometimes because Im afraid I might ruin someones day - his familys, the rest of our friends- maybe its not a good idea, I think, to remind them at an off-time about that gaping hole in all our hearts- but I think its worse not to remember him at all. Especially during Cinemalaya. Im sorry, I had to write this. Bear with me. I miss our friend.
