Every Expectant woman needs to celebrate the birth of her baby - TopicsExpress

Every Expectant woman needs to celebrate the birth of her baby with joy, dignity, laughter and accomplishment regardless of her background, social status, economical strength, education levels or marital status. Our experience at FreMo in the past two weeks at random. 1. An orphan walks into the birth centre and enrolls for prenatal. She is taken care in a kind, warm, dignified manner and during birth she gives birth to a baby with a spina fida condition. She needs transfer; at the transferred centre they need some cash to do the intended procedures. All this time long, the family is panicking, swallowing saliva with pain and thoughts full of anguish. Their first babys future healthy uncertain. 2. A domestic worker 15 years old knocks at the door of FreMo at 2.am. She is been tying her tummy to conceal that she is pregnant. After examination, the doctor almost recommends food poisoning diagnosis which he later dismisses when he goes further. The girl suddenly starts pushing and eventually gives birth to a shiny, bright baby boy. The master says I don’t have money I can only pay what I have. We discharge her at will and home she goes. 3. A young couple walks in with their first pregnancy. In the midst of the night, makes their way to the clinic. No baby clothes, no shawls, and nothing for the mother after birth. She gets examined, admitted for continued observation. A little while she pushes forth a baby boy. Their first bundle of joy. Being rhesus negative, mother needs Anti D. with no money to buy clothes for baby, no cash for the little charge for maternity and for anti D? Impossible. We have to get her anti D. 4. A young girl knocks the door of the medical centre at night accompanied by fellow girls. Apparently at that time they are so high and so drunk. The baby has been born in the dirty streets of the estate. She walks in with nothing. After birth the baby is underweight. Baby need to be transferred for further observation to the pediatrician. No risking here we have to ensure that all is well before discharge. 5. A mother identifies FreMo from a far neighborhood. She refuses to attend prenatal because she believes that her faith will see her through. Contractions starts, she calls for transport. The driver arrives with her 30 minutes later. Gives birth and soon we realize she was not prepared at all. Well we do what we know how to do. 6. 22 single young woman walks at 3 am with no maternal booklet unaccompanied. No maternal booklet, no friend and no clothes leave a lone some cash. We admit, honor her birth and we trace her relatives who comes later and pays the little fee. Week after week when you summarize the births, you are left wondering whether women are enjoying the economic, political and social cultures gained in the 21st century. We have stood where we can with these noble beings. So can you. If you can identify them, search and see them. Give them a shoulder to lean in any way. At the best you can join us. Rise up and stand for somebody before your time is up.
