Every computer has an operating system. If your computer is approximately 5 years old or older then you are most likely using Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional. If you are using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 then you are perfectly safe from what will be occurring in the world of computers. If you are using Mac or Apple then you are also safe. HERE IS THE PROBLEM..AND IT IS A PROBLEM. In a few weeks Microsoft will not long be protecting Windows XP users. There are TWO primary ways a computer can be compromised. 1. A virus. Xp will continue to protect you from an virus or spyware as always...this is NOT about that. 2. Security holes in the Windows Operating system. This IS about that. The Windows updates that would download automatically on your computer will no longer occur. THIS IS SERIOUS. Security holes in Windows is where a web site will permit a hacker to get into your computer and steal data and track your every word/password/etc. THERE WILL NOW BE NO WAY TO STOP THIS...IT IS NOT A VIRUS BUT DOES WHAT A VIRUS DOES. Banking records, tax returns, personal data will be available to a hacker. Windows XP will continue to work as always. It can be used for word processing, photography editing, games etc. So the issue is using XP online only. I honestly do not know the percentage of a chance you will be hacked but I do know that any chance is too much and that the hackers are now going to go crazy designing programs that can access your computer (while online only). These hackers get into your computer when you visit a website that has been compromised and that web site may not even be aware it has been hacked. Dont take a chance. I would also suggest you buy a new computer rather than upgrade the operating system to Windows 7 or Windows 8. Technology has changed so much. But the choice is yours. I would not use Windows XP after then next couple of months. (online that is).
