Every form of worship, be it prayer, fasting, yoga or puja, - TopicsExpress

Every form of worship, be it prayer, fasting, yoga or puja, (ritualized worship, mass), is with the intention of being conscious of God; aware of our True Self, Self Realization. Fasting, is one means of turning inward. But how often, during day to day activities, do we turn inward and ask for help and guidance from our Inner Self? Many are stuck in the two year old mentality of, ‘I can do it by myself’. There’s a hard way of living, namely, ‘I can do this all by myself’, (struggle, resist, force), or an easier way, ‘God in and through me does this,’ (allowing flow). All of life can be a blissful journey from inside out, through focus of God’s flow from within. Here’s what Sri Swamiji says:- “Upavaasa does not mean merely fasting. In fact, literally, it means staying near. Near whom? Near God. It means to feel the presence of God, not merely sitting near the idol of God. Fasting is complimentary to keeping awake. Keeping awake provides you with an opportunity to consciously think of God. These also have purifying properties. We all know the benefits of fasting. It is essential physically because it purifies the system and enhances gastric fire. It is a good mental exercise as well. By practicing, one can slowly get rid of the grip of the sense organs.” Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji, God Word Vol I –(Fasting)
