Every instrument poses a unique set of technique challenges to overcome. For fiddle, I believe it is mostly finding the correct bow pressure to create a nice sound but not a screech. It is also one of those instruments that is picky down to the millimeter on the finger board. My intonation is getting better, and I adjust while I am playing when I can, but I havent quite hit the mark on actually starting the notes in tune unless they are on open strings. I am slowly but surely getting better. The amount of work I put into it does not yield the same a if I were on piano. In one hour of practicing piano, I can get a lot more accomplished with more difficult music than what I can do on a fiddle. One hour of practicing fiddle gets about as much accomplished as I would 5 minutes on the piano.
