Every morning I read the Herald Mail online. The Herald Mail is the local Newspaper from Hagerstown. I check the Obituaries every morning after reading the news. This morning I read the Obituary for Sid Palmer, a long time Assistant Chief of the Western Enterprise Fire Company Number 4. Sid was a much needed asset at fire scenes. Along with his Firefighting expertise, he was also a Lineman for the City; and several times at big fires Sid mitigated electrical hazards that would have taken hours for electrical crews to respond. Sid was one of the men from the West End that then Chief of the Hagerstown Fire Department relied heavily upon. Sid was a Big, Big man with a huge booming voice. But he was also a kind, caring and calming man. For several years Sid was my Uncle Richards next door neighbor. They had been long time friends from the Western Enterprise. The morning Richard died from a heart attack, it was Sid who found him. I remember how Sensitive he was when talking with my grandmother following Richards passing. I can imagine the conversations in Heaven among Sid, Big Jack Green, Bill Harper, Lenny Barton, John Hall, Will Hovermale, Bud Gabe, Russel Peepsight Anderson and the many others from the Western Enterprise who are now in Heaven. Farewell Sid...
