Every morning, when I pick up the morning paper (or grab the cell - TopicsExpress

Every morning, when I pick up the morning paper (or grab the cell phone from the bedside), I take a quick look at world events and often find some Armenian connection - sometimes big, sometimes small, sometimes direct, often indirect - but, a connection. The happy events are met with a smile. The tragedies - I pray to God, this one, let our community be spared. I remember hearing about the Charlie Hebdo attack on NPR - shocked at its cold-blooded and gruesome nature and deeply respectful of the journalists who were unwilling to let terrorists dictate their lives. I said a quick prayer for those who perished and their colleagues who survived, and then, reflexively hoped there was no Armenian connection to this one. And, of course, there was. Asbarez News today shared the The Huffington Post (french edition) coverage of a press conference featuring French Armenian humorist and journalist Mathieu Madenian, a staffer at Charlie Hebdo, who, had not gone into work on that fateful morning, instead leaving a message for the team that he would make up for it by bringing an Epiphany Cake for the meeting next Wednesday and catch up with the editor over the weekend. Sheer, dumb, blind, luck. Sending condolences to all the Charlie Hebdo team and the people of France who are grieving today for their friends and countrymen and carrying the banner of free speech for everyone. - asbarez/130543/french-armenian-charlie-hebdo-humorist-didn%E2%80%99t-go-to-work/
