Every now and then I get an email from a customer asking if I can accommodate their wishes for a custom Lego design and I GREATLY enjoy saying, HELL YES! Well, folks, the email I got today asked for something awesome. My customer wants a custom rock n roll set! Now, Lego makes tons of excellent accessories these days that mean its no longer necessary to slap a few mismatched parts together and try very hard to pretend that they look like a guitar, etc. There are now actual guitars (Gibson Flying V styled ones at that!), microphones, etc. This said, larger items like amps, stage gear, drums, and so on are still strictly within the realm of the imaginary. Yes, Lego did produce their own Rock Band kit a couple of years ago, and while (as previously mentioned) the accessories were pretty kick-ass, the meat-and-potatoes gear left a bit to be desired. I suppose this is why I have been asked to design a few items that are a bit more substantial. :D So far Ive nailed down the drum kit (well, Im mostly satisfied with it) and a beefy all purpose (read guitars, bass, or keys as needed) amp design. If youre so inclined, please check out the screen grabs below and tell me what you think. Id especially like to know if you think the first, more straight forward amp design or the second, which includes a wireless system, is better. More to come! By the way, if theres a Lego appreciative rocker in your life, Ive decided to turn out multiples of these for the holidays. Sets will include your choice of number of amps, guitars, keyboards, two or more microphones with stands, a drum kit, a riser stage with basic lights, PA stage monitors, and the appropriate number of minifigures in customizable styles. Prices fluctuate according to piece counts and rarity, but I can hit price points from $25 up on this set. Now accepting pre-orders! :)
