Every once in a while the parents of our patients want to show - TopicsExpress

Every once in a while the parents of our patients want to show appreciation for the work of O4A. Yesterday, Toni (O4A nurse) and I received a fish from the father of one of our patients. Its one he caught from Lake Victoria (and it was big, as long as from my elbow to my fingers). Lets just say he was very grateful to O4A for the services provided to his son, and we were happy to receive such a gift! Toni and I talked about what to do...How could we store it? How could we eat it that same day? Toni had a great idea: give it to our other patients who have been waiting in the hospital and clinic for weeks already. Great idea Toni, they were very grateful. I asked to go and watch them prepare it too (since they do it a little differently from what Im used to). I even tried my hand a de-scaling it (Im not very good at it, but at least we had a good laugh). And when it was cooked (on a tiny charcoal stove in the back alley behind the clinic), I got to taste a little piece. YUMMY! Glad I got to learn this simple yet delicious recipe today from some wonderful women. And I have to say, this might be the oddest gift I have ever received, but it is one I certainly appreciate and will not forget. (By Hilary, O4A intern)
