Every person in the Federation, of whatever race, has the right to profess and practice his religion; no person may be compelled to pay any tax for the purpose of assisting any religion other than his own; and every religious group has the right to manage its own religious affairs and to establish and maintain institutions for religious or charitable purposes. This is the basic human right of freedom of worship and it affects every Malayan man, woman and child. Malayans, whatever their race and religion, value this right and are proud to belong to a country with such an enlightened, tolerant and civilised Constitution.
