Every single form in creation has a certain rhythm, rhythm and form are so deeply interconnected. When rhythm is well organized and the changes are at a quick rate of motion, form preserves itself for some time. When the rhythm starts to exhaust itself and become irregular, the rate of change slowing down, then that form begins to dissolve itself. Like this, every object in creation can be seen as a kind of rhythm. And what is rhythm ? Rhythm is a continuous repetition of sound, vibration. In this, lies the entire secret of the science of mantra. Through your attention being absorbed in certain sounds and rhythms, consciousness takes the form of that sound. What is that which has been called infinite ? That sound which is beyond all sound. This is also the inner meaning of the mantra Om - the soundless sound that lies at the very ground of creation. And when this soundless sound of Om stirs itself into action, it bursts forth into the rhythmic dance of Shiva, the Cosmic Dancer.
