Every teacher I have discussed common core with have found it - TopicsExpress

Every teacher I have discussed common core with have found it lacking and often harmful to the students it is intended to uplift. Some people point to countries like Japan and how their education is superior. That is because of the emphasis on its importance not because the central government dictates the lessons. Even though their national government has a lot to do with their school standards, remember that it is a nation that is smaller than California in size and less than a third of our population, what works for them does not work for others. We had a higher standard and more advanced students when students were allowed to fail and be told they failed. The emphasis now seems to be that everyone can be everything, but that is simply bullshit. I can not be a math professor and I never could have been. Letting students fail and find where their weaknesses are is how they find their way onto the path that is best suited for them. I was fortunate in that I learned quickly and could learn many things, but I count among my flaws the inability to learn the nuances of many subjects. Kind of jack of all trades master of none idea. I found my skills to be of best use in the Army and I had a successful career. Allow our children to find their path and excel where they are capable and stop telling them they can be everything, that kind of lie makes everyone believe they can be an astronaut but leaves no one to build the launch platform.
