Every time I make the statement (based on extensive personal and professional experience) that the legal system has very little in common with justice, most still think Im exaggerating. And that is not only frustrating after so long, but it is a major part of the problem, the very reason why law enforcement can so blatantly get away with often doing more damage to society than the valuable service it claims to be providing. Real criminals fail to be properly prosecuted, while innocent people way too often end up wasting years of their lives locked up in taxpayer-supported private prisons. What I have a hard time understanding is the following: Are these police and government worshippers so painfully naive because they just never happened to hear of the countless documented cases (occasionally presented even on the news) of abuse, carelessness, incompetence, followed by cover-ups and campaigns of shamelessly, falsely accusing the victims of crimes, or is it a case of wilful ignorance and cognitive dissonance, like in the case of religious believers, blindly following others, too afraid to acknowledge a reality that might turn their idyllic world view apart? I perfectly understand that staring reality in the face can be a painful, scary experience, but keep ignoring it most definitely does not make things any better. Ignorance might be bliss for some, for a while, but it is not only extremely damaging to society in general, but sooner or later, one way or another, reality will not be shy to come back and punch the ignorant in the face - and that will hurt much more! Nobody is arguing the need for laws and their enforcement, on the contrary: it would be just nice to see some display of fairness, accountability and why not, Justice - for all involved, equally.
