Every time I sit down and play a song from Graceland or Rhythm of - TopicsExpress

Every time I sit down and play a song from Graceland or Rhythm of the Saints on acoustic guitar (especially if its a song I havent played in a while) Im always stunned at the life the tune seems to carry with it. These are songs of profound truth, despite their simplicity, joyous melodies and playfulness. In fact, its precisely that interplay between joy and sorrow - between the lighthearted rhythms and tunes with the sad, wistful and bemused lyrics, that makes the songs so truthful I think. But they spring to life on their own - even when I play sloppy and do a crappy recording, I can feel these songs deep in my heart, moving my fingers for me, breathing for me, coming to life in the guitar strings completely on their own. I dont feel like Im playing the songs at all but rather that they are just channeling through me from somewhere else - a place where they play eternally on every instrument ever made. They always sound new to me and yet they feel like they were playing in my ears since before I was born. They are truly timeless songs.
