Every year around this time, I get anxious and over excited at the prospect of us signing the next Carlos Kickaball (to paraphrase an unpopular chairman), and constantly trawl any media source available to see who we are linked with, but not this year. I have come to the realisation that we dont need to spend millions on a Illie Dumetrescu, Sergie Rebrov or a Roberto Soldado, all very exciting at the time of purchase but turned out to be expensive disappointments, occasionally we get it right; Berbatov, Bale, Modric, Ericksen. Chelsea and City have all spent loads and have titles to show for it, but have also had their Robinhos and Shevchenkos along the way.What of our youth system? well we have produced adequate players; Bentaleb, Kane, Townshend, Rose, Caulker , Carroll and have some more in waiting, we need our last years investments to step up, and not be so error prone and top 4 is not impossible, despite our competitors improvement ( so it seems).
