Every year at Thanksgiving, my grandmother and aunts would take us to the front of the Macys store in Manhattan to watch the Parade..We would be freezing cold. All stores were closed along the route, making it impossible to find a restroom...Grandmother loved the roasted chestnuts sold from handcarts along the route..wed munch on these as we gazed excitedly at the wonderful animated Christmas displays in the store windows. different and dazzling each year.. .after the Parade, wed be at Rockefeller Center watching the ice skaters and the huge Christmas tree . Then to FAO Swartz toy store- perhaps a horse and carriage ride through Central Park- and finally in late afternoon, arriving home cold, tired, hungry and ever so ready to join dozens of relatives for Thanksgiving dinner. Happy Thanksgiving to each one of you.Enjoy where ever you are and however you can. nyctourist/macys_history1.htm
