Every year, the Dutch ministry of foreign affairs awards the Human Rights Tulip to a human rights defender who promotes and supports human rights in innovative ways. Nominations for the Human Rights Tulip 2014 are now open. You are more than welcome to put forward a person or organisation as a candidate between now and September 7, 2014 at humanrightstulip.nl. Please invite your networks to put forward candidates via the same website and encourage human rights defenders within your network to nominate themselves for the Human Rights Tulip 2014 as well. For this purpose, the ministry has developed a toolbox with a number of campaign tools. The toolbox contains a digital banner, posters, a promotion video andbackground information about the Human Rights Tulip. You can download the toolbox here:podium.nl/download.php?id=1406894112. The ministry of foreign affairs will also promote the campaign through social media. You can find the ministry on Twitter @minbuza (Dutch),facebook/NederlandendeVN (Dutch) and @MinBuza_news (English). The nominees will be announced in September, after which the public voting starts on September 29. During the voting period (September 29 – October 10), please invite your networks to vote for the candidates. The winner of the award will be announced on December 9, thus gaining global recognition for the important and innovative work he/she is doing. Furthermore, the winner will receive support worth €100.000 to further develop and scale up their innovation.
