Everybody is talking and writing about Claudia Rankines book, Citizen -- which I hope means that more people will read it instead of read about it, which is the danger -- especially in this age of socially disposable information. Im on my second reading of the book because I will be teaching it at Goddard in January to a class of mostly white people, and to my undergraduates at Hunter College this spring. That said, of all the critical pieces I have read on Claudias book, this one by Erica Hunt is one of the more compelling ones -- mainly because of its research and for the fact that how can you talk about this book at all without talking about the YOU. And, also for its passionate insight into the previous work. And this piece has footnotes!
